5/10/11
I love my city life, but I have to admit, my parents' backyard in good ol' Flowery Branch has quickly become one of my new favorite places. It's green with tons of trees, lots of flowers, a screened in porch, and occasionally a train in the distance. It's peaceful, quiet, and always feels like summer. It's been a year since they moved in, and I can already count all the times I've run away from my life, whatever its dramas were, and come here to hide and be still. I ran away again today, mostly from the self imposed stress of leaving soon, and again found peace. In case you couldn't tell, I really like the word peace. It's right on up there with the word hope as one of my all time favorites. When you reflect on hope and peace, there's no wrong to be found in either of them, unless it's a situation in which they don't exist. Anyway, my parents, my sisters, and my old friend Meg have helped me to find a little bit of peace and hope today, and for that I am thankful.
Also on my list, I'm thankful...
1. For the faint sound of crickets at night. Nothing says summer quite like it.
2. For the smell of honeysuckle. Love that. It reminds me of when we lived in Simpsonville, and my sisters and I were allowed to walk home from church on Sunday nights by ourselves in the summer. There was always honeysuckle along the way, and those were some of the few times when we didn't have to try to get along, we just did.
3. For Gerber daisies. They're just pretty. Did you know they came from Africa?
Goodnight y'all. Hope it's a peaceful one.
